The findings of new research published in "Metabolic Brain Disease" reported that fatty meals are not only an enemy to the waistline but also cause irreversible damage to cognitive functions. The researchers established a clear link between mice fed a high-fat diet for 30 weeks, resulting in diabetes and subsequent deterioration in their cognitive functions, such as developing anxiety, depression, etc.

Dr. Larisa Bobrovskaya, Assistant Professor, stated that obese individuals are at an increased risk of developing depression by 55%, which is further doubled with the addition of diabetes into the equation. She explained that obesity and diabetes impair the central nervous system, resulting in the aggravation of psychiatric conditions and a decline in cognitive functions. Dr. Larisa stated that the findings add to the growing evidence correlating chronic obesity and diabetes with Alzheimers disease.
